A man was injured following a shooting in the Jean Baptiste Gambler First Nations Reserve by Calling Lake early Saturday morning, Athabasca RCMP said.

Officers responded to a report of gun shots at approximately 2:30 a.m. A 25-year-old man, who was sitting in his vehicle in a driveway just off the main road, received an injury to his head when his vehicle was shot at, police said.

The victim drove himself to a nearby residence to call for assistance, and he was then transported to Edmonton via air ambulance for medical assistance, RCMP said. The man has since returned to Athabasca to recover.

Police said that a small and possibly red, four-door vehicle was seen in the area at the time of the shooting, but they have not located it.

Officers also patrolled the community and conducted door-to-door inquires, but they were unable to locate a suspect.
