UP STF arrests Mumbai robbery kingpin in Varanasi

VARANASI: UP STF on Saturday arrested the main accused of the robbery of Rs 75 lakhs and four mobile phones from the office of a share broker in Mumbai on October 4.
According to STF, after Mumbai police sought cooperation from UP STF officials the SSP STF Amit Pathak assigned the Varanasi field unit of agency to trace the main accused of this robbery case- Akash alias Raju Yadav alias Pankaj Pandey alias Vishal Singh of Jaunpur district.
On Saturday the STF cops succeeded in locating Akash near Varuna bridge under Cantonment area and arrested him. STF recovered three mobile phones including one robbed from Mumbai and a motorcycle from his possession.
During initial interrogation he confessed that he along with other five accused persons including Kailash, Prakash, Azim and Sonu Marwadi had raided the office of share broker Mahesh Laxmikant Thanvi at Kavasji Street of Dhobi Talab area in Azad Maidan of Mumbai on October 4. On reaching there six more persons arranged by Kailash and Prakash joined them and they all raided Thanvi’s office. After terrorizing the persons in Thanvi’s office they robbed cash worth Rs 75 lakhs and four mobile phones after which they fled the scene. Later, they reached Khar area to get their share in robbed money.
Akash divulged that he got Rs seven lakhs and a mobile phone as his share. Akash spent the money on clearing his dues, paying installment of motorcycle, purchasing building materials and partying at hotels before returning home. Akash, who has a long criminal history sheet with Varanasi and Jaunpur police, further informed that he was taken to Mumbai to execute the plan of this robbery by his neighbor Sonu.
STF officials said that Mumbai police had already arrested seven accused persons of this case. Following arrest STF Akash over to cantonment police to complete necessary legal formalities before handing him over to Mumbai police.
