PUNE: Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation(PCMC) will be repairing the
roads in
industrial areas of the municipal limits in Chikhli, Akurdi and Chinchwad to provide relief to the industrial workers who face hardships. The civic body will be allotting the contracts for
tarring of roads using hot mix method in Shelarvasti area of ward 3 - in Chikhli at an expenditure of Rs 42.17 lakh; tarring roads in ward 10 at an expenditure of Rs 65.09 lakh and tarring roads in ward 29 at an expenditure of Rs 1.05 crore.
Speaking to TOI, Shirish Poredi, spokesperson, engineering department, PCMC said, “The tarring work will have to be completed in nine months after allotment of contract.” The small industrialists in different industrial
areas in the city have been complaining that the industries pay the maximum tax to the civic body but in return they do not get good civic amenities. They have been demanding for several years that the civic body provide adequate street lighting in the areas as well as create a network of drainage and storm water pipeline network and also tar all the roads in the industrial areas. Speaking to TOI, Nitin Bankar, former president, Pimpri Chinchwad Small Industries Association (PCSIA) said, “The roads in industrial areas in the city are in bad condition''.
