Rio Olympic silver medallist and China Open winner, PV Sindhu defeated local girl Ngan Yi Cheung to storm into the final of the Hong Kong Open. In a match which lasted for 46 minutes, the lanky shuttler outplayed Cheung 21-14, 21-16 at Hong Kong Coliseum-1.
Sindhu, who entered her second straight Super Series final, battled hard to take the upper hand till the mid-game break, but the turning point came when Sindhu clinched seven straight points to take the first game in 18 minutes. She will now take on Tai Tzu Ying of Taiwan in the summit clash on Sunday.
Sindhu will now take on Taiwan’s Tai Tzu Ying who defeated World number one and defending Hong Kong Open champion Carolina Marin 21-17, 14-21, 21-16.
Meanwhile, unheralded Sameer Verma stunned World No. 3 Jan O Jorgensen in the men’s singles event to make his first Super Series final. The Hyderabadi defeated Jorgensen 21-19, 24-22 in a contest which lasted around 45 minutes.
Sameer, who is the reigning Senior National Badminton champion in India, take on local boy NG Ka Long Angus who beat compatriot HU Yun to make it to the summit clash.

Sindhu, who moved to ninth position in BWF rankings after winning her quarterfinal match, moved ahead of former no. 1 Saina Nehwal.
