Demonetization: Gujarat Congress continues protests, organizes bike rallies

Ahmedabad Continuing its protest against the demonetization issue in the home state of prime minister Narendra Modi, main opposition Congress today held numerous bike rallies across Gujarat while its state president Bharatsinh Solanki demanded issuance of white paper on the move.

Several leaders and workers of the party were also detained during the rallies. In Idar town of North Gujarat around 50 workers of the party were detained while they were going to protest near the local residence of assembly speaker Ramanlal Vora. In Palitana town of Bhavnagar district local MLA Pravin Rathod along with around 30 workers of the party was also detained. Such detentions were reported from other places also.

A bike rally of the party attended by its leaders including local MLA Gayasuddin Sheikh was also organized from Sabarmati Ashram to Kocharab in Ahmedabad city. Party leaders and workers shouted anti government slogans and were holding placards with slogans alleging that the demonetization move has put the commoners in difficulty while the rich folk were enjoying.

Meanwhile, state president of the party Mr Solanki said that the union government should issue a white paper on demonetization to clear the air of suspicion around it. ‘There are many things that point finger towards the dubious role of the union government. It should bring white paper on the issue,’ he said.

Congress had also held rail and road blockades yesterday on the issue.
