Fitness awareness: Senior Citizens forum in Junagadh to organize walking competition

Junagadh: In an interesting way to aware people about the benefits of exercise and physical activities, a forum of senior citizens in Junagadh city of Gujarat is going to organize a walking competition for them in which both men and women up to 90 years of age will participate.
The president of Junagadh Senior Citizen Mandal, the organizer of the event to be held tomorrow in the premises of Pandit Deendayal Parwatarohan Kendra, J B Mankad today said that a total of around 120 senior citizens including woman have registered for participation.
‘There will be 3 age categories with different walking distances for the competition. Under the first one, for the participants of 60 to 70 years of age, the distance will be three km. For those between 70 and 80 years of age the distance is two km while that for those between 80 and 90 years the distance is the least at one km,’ Mr Mankad said.
‘It will give message of fitness to people in general and the senior citizens in particular. Awareness about the benefits of walking and other physical activities in effectively dealing with age related diseases like diabetes, hypertension and heart ailments must be spread,’ he said.
