Shock as Gunmen Kill Major Mohammed Kiggundu

Police are investigating circumstances under which a UPDF soldier at the rank of Major was killed on Saturday morning in Masanafu, Kasubi, Wakiso District.

Maj. Mohammed Kiggundu was shot dead, together with his bodyguard as he was heading to Pearl FM, a local radio station in the city center for a talk show known as ‘Obusilamu Bugagga’.

When contacted on phone, the Asst. Inspector General of Police, Felix Kaweesi who is also Force’s publicist said he was rushing to the scene.

“We heard of the incident in Masanafu and I am heading there now. Please call back in the next 30 minutes,” said Kaweesi.

ChimpReports understands that gunmen riding a motorcycle trailed Kiggundu for several minutes before opening fire on his army green double cabin truck.

The bullets ripped the tyres apart before the car fell in a trench.

It’s in this confusion that the attackers fire more shots, killing Kiggundu and his escort instantly.

The assassins’ identities remain unclear since they took off immediately after killing Kiggundu.

The reason behind Kiggundu’s shooting remains unknown but officials say he recently parted ways with one of the wrangling Muslim sects in Kampala.

Today’s shooting has reignited fears of renewed hostilities in the warring Muslim factions.

It has not only terrified the nation but raised concerns about the abuse of firearms in the country.

Hundreds rushed to the blood-spattered scene only to find two motionless bodies.

The army and police are said to have commenced a joint probe into the mysterious killing.

Maj Kiggundu was a husband of renowned ‘traditional healer’ Syllvia Namutebi commonly known as Mama Fiina.

The shooting has evoked bad memories of the past three years that saw several people shot dead in Kampala and Wakiso districts.

Sheikh Ibrahim Hassan Kirya of the Kibuli-based Muslim faction was gunned down by unknown men who were riding on a boda boda.

Sheikh Mustafa Bahiga who was shot dead on December 28 2014 at the Bwebajja Mosque on Entebbe road.

Sheikh Wafula was shot five times while traveling for Ishae prayer.

Prosecutor Joan Kagezi’s killers are yet to be found almost two years since she was shot in Kiwatule, Kampala.
