Virumandikkum Sivanaandikkkum Movie Review

Critic's Rating: 1.5/5
Synopsis: A jobless youngster and his friend borrow money from a goon to start a business and fall into a trap of a filmmaker in disguise. A few unexpected incidents turn their life topsy-turvy.

Review: Filmmakers who make low-budget movies in Kollywood with new faces in lead roles often succeed in roping in a few comedians who are good at carrying the story forward. The presence of such artistes can also be utilised for the film’s promotions as well to create buzz among film buffs, who otherwise do not show much interest these days to shell out money to tolerate the performance of unknown faces who come across as heroes and heroines. Vincent Selva’s Virumandikkum Sivanaandikkkum, too, has relatively newbies, Sanjay and Arundhati, as its male and female leads. Their roles have been poorly written, especially that of Arundhati’s, making the viewers search for solace in the other artistes in the film, as the plot, too, is a disappointing one.

And, it is Thambi Ramaiah, who essays the role of a filmmaker in disguise, who keeps the audience engaged in a few scenes, thanks to his flawless performance. Aadukalam Murugadoss, who is known for choosing roles wisely, has also pulled off his role, that of the protagonist’s friend, in a decent way. Yogi Babu, as usual, manages to create a few laughs, but the characters played by Manobala, Robo Shankar, Mayilsamy, Delhi Ganesh, et al are almost insignificant to the story. The scenes where these artistes appear are a direct rip-off from a sequence in Priyadarshan’s 2009 comedy De Dana Dan, a remake of his own Vettam, which released more than a decade ago, and was based on the 1995 Hollywood film French Kiss. No wonder this film feels dated!
