Consumer redressal forum slaps fine on teleshopping show, associated company

The case was filed by Dera Bassi resident Sushma Saini after she was delivered the French Crepe Dress Materials which she ordered from TV show Home Shop 18. Saini in her complaint alleged that the material was low quality and different from the material marketed in the show.

Saini in her complaint said that she placed an order for a pack of seven printed French Crepe Dress Materials of Zoha which were delivered to her on December 14, 2015 with a charge of Rs.2,098 on delivery. Saini approached Home Shop 18 and made a complaint about the product. She sent the parcel back through the post office at Dera Bassi by paying an amount of Rs. 239 on December 15, 2015, but two days later the parcel was returned to her with remarks that the company refused to accept it.

After admitting the complaint, the forum sent a notice to the company but the company did not entertain the notice and did not send any of its representatives to the court. The court later found the company guilty of unfair trade practices and ordered the company to refund the total cost of the dress, along with 8 percent interest, and to pay lump sum compensation and costs of Rs.6,000. The court also directed the company to comply with the order within 45 days.
