‘SPVs are driving force for smart cities’

SURAT: Special Purpose Vehicles (SPV) are driving force for smart cities as it is an autonomous body and can take decisions independently. It will help timely completion of project.
“When we are looking at making Surat a smart city, we need to complete some of the mega projects in time-bound manner. Projects like Outer Ring Road, makeover of Surat railway station and completion of Dream City could be dealt with SPV made of various companies.
This will help Surat achieve its dream of becoming a first smart city,” said Jatin Shah, former city engineer and now advisor to the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC). Shah was speaking at the Smart City Summit that began on Friday.
In the session dedicated for SPV, delegates from Hyderabad, Delhi, Surat and others participated.
S Nagrajan, deputy commissioner, SMC in-charge of Smart City Mission said, “An SPV provides ways to channelize efforts under Smart City Mission in a structured and agile way. It has special focus on achieving mission goals.”
On the first day of the summit sessions, subjects like ensuring safe, secure and resilient cities and infrastructure with help of modern technology and building smart cities in changing urban scenario were discussed.
