JAMMU, Nov 25:  “While financial derivatives are generally used for managing the price risk and excessive volatility in financial markets across the world, an uncontrolled- overdose of these may ignite the financial instability and systemic risk in the global financial markets.”
This was opined by Dr Ashutosh Vashishtha, an Associate Professor at School of Business, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, while delivering a lecture during seminar on “Derivatives, development and destruction” at Pontifcia University Javeriana, Cali, Columbia,
He cautioned the mega banks and large investors to refresh their memories of 2008 global financial crisis when Wall Street financial behemoths like Goldman Sachs and others were wiped out because of the excessive abuse of complex derivatives products. Economists and financial analysts all over the world are worried about the precarious position of the global financial giant ‘Deutsche Bank’ and the likes who are sitting on the mountain of extremely stressed financial assets and complex derivatives products, he explained.
Dr. Vashishtha is on two weeks long academic trip since 16 November 2016 to Pontifcia University Javeriana, as an international invited faculty scholar who is fulfilling the academic agenda in a joint work with faculty of Department of Accounting and Finance, and the “Thought and Praxis Research Group” here. His research trip has been fully sponsored by Pontifcia University Javeriana’s office of Research, Development and Innovation.
