LUCKNOW: A Border Security Force sub-inspector was shot dead a day before his wedding in the neighbouring Barabanki district on Friday. Avinash Rastogi was posted in Jammu and Kashmir and had come on leave. Police said Avinash’s step brother Vikas gunned him down. Vikas took the extreme step because Avinash was marrying the former’s sister-in-law, against his will.
Circle officer of Barabanki city, DySP Santosh Singh said Avinash was at home near Ghantaghar in Barabanki.
The baraat was scheduled to leave on Saturday. Vikas came on a visit and tried to convince Avinash to cancel the wedding. When he refused, an enraged Vikas took out his licensed gun and fired two shots. The bullets injured Avinash in the leg and chest.
He was rushed to KGMU’s trauma centre where he succumbed to his injuries. Singh said Avinash and Vikas were also involved in a property dispute.
“Nobody expected Vikas to get so violent,” added Singh. The bride-to-be was shattered and demanded harshest punishment for Vikas. Efforts were on to arrest the accused.
