PATNA: Hotel Gargee Grand's owner Ramesh Kumar Singh and his personal security officer Saroj Kumar Singh were arrested on Friday for committing a fraud. Despite being a private guard, Saroj was seen in police uniform which, he said, was provided to him by Ramesh. Police also seized a fake arms licence issued from Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir, a regular pistol of the Ordnance Factories Board and 24 live cartridges from Saroj's possession.
The matter came to light during police investigation after Ramesh's manager Ritesh Kumar Singh lodged an FIR on Wednesday against Sunil Kumar Sinha, who runs Hotel Kautilya on lease. Both Ramesh and Saroj were called to Kotwali police station on Thursday for interrogation. Saroj reached there in police uniform which he had been wearing for the last five years.
According to the FIR, Ritesh had gone to file a tender at Kautilya where Sunil allegedly threatened to shoot him and his owner if they filed the tender. Ritesh, at that time, was with Saroj who was in police uniform. Sunil was later arrested on the basis of the FIR and was forwarded to jail on Thursday.
"During investigation, Saroj was spotted in police uniform with Ritesh in the CCTV footage at Kautilya after which he, along with Ramesh, was called for interrogation," said City SP (Central) Chandan Kumar Kushwaha.
He said Saroj revealed that Ramesh had provided him the uniform and used him to influence others for getting his works done at several places, mostly for government tenders.
"Preliminary investigations revealed that the licence was fake and its serial number was nowhere entered in the district's arms officer's logbook," said Kushwaha, adding that police were investigating if Ramesh used other private security guards also as police personnel by providing them police uniform. He said a separate FIR has been lodged in this connection.
