PATNA: Former minister and RJD leader Vidya Sagar Nishad's son Lakhan Nishad (43) was arrested with 12 bottles of Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL) from a private house located on the Mithapur main road near Dayanand High School under Jakkanpur police station on Friday. Police also recovered four empty cartons of IMFL from the house.
Police sources said the raid was conducted on the double-storey private house after Thursday midnight while he was going to deliver some of the liquor bottles to someone in the city.
"He had been running a small pub inside the house for the past several months. People with good contacts used to visit there and party," said a police officer on condition of anonymity. He said Patna SSP Manu Maharaaj had got a tip-off about the illegal liquor trade being operated from the house.
The officer also said the private residence was in the name of Ramji Chaudhary, who is the brother-in-law of Lakhan. No one else was present in the house except Lakhan at the time of the raid. "At least for the last three months, Lakhan, a native of Khagaria district, was running the makeshift pub with all the facilities for a hefty sum charged from the guests," he said, adding that the liquor bottles were being purchased in small quantity from the smugglers who bring them from Haryana.
He also said more raids were conducted in Patna from midnight to 7am on the information provided by Lakhan.
Patna SSP Manu Maharaaj said investigations were on and further details were awaited as police were still involved in corroborating the information provided by the politician's son. tnn
