Cherbourg will benefit from almost $300,000 in grants funding as part of the Palaszczuk Government’s $70 million local government infrastructure and jobs boost announced earlier this year.

Minister for State Development, Minister for Natural Resources and Mines and Ministerial Champion for Cherbourg Dr Anthony Lynham said the funding was awarded to the Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council to help them to deliver diverse projects that boost local liveability and improve water security.

“We know how important great infrastructure is to the community and these grants mean that the council will be able to deliver this infrastructure,” Dr Lynham said.

“This is great news achieved in record time, with a new process implemented this year which meant projects were assessed in just weeks.

“The Government has allocated funding of more than $170,000 to renovate the Cherbourg Community Hall.

“This work is crucial to the residents of Cherbourg to ensure the Community Hall is a safe facility as a place of refuge during natural disasters as well as providing a great place to meet and hold community events.

“A further $126,000 has been approved to upgrade pipes for the main water supply while another $40,365 will go towards the construction of a covered and cemented courtyard area adjacent to the Cherbourg IKC Healing Space.”

The funding is part of the Palaszczuk Government’s almost $70 million grants package which includes the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program, Community Resilience Fund and Natural Disaster Resilience Program.
