GHAZIABAD: Kale alias Yunus came in the spotlight following the audacious murder of city cloth merchant brothers Amzad Malik and Arshi Malik within a year. But Kale, a resident of Pasonda village, took to crime as early as in 1998 when his name cropped up in cases of extortion and robbery.
In 1998, two FIRs were filed against him at the Sahibabad police station for attempt to murder and in the same year he was an accused in another FIR at the Nandnagri police sation.
Then again in 2001 an FIR was lodged against him at the Sahibabad police station for abduction. In 2002, he was booked under the Arms Act at the Sarita Vihar police station in Delhi. Between 2011 and 2016 he became an accused in seven more FIRs for murder, attempt to murder, extortion and robberies at the Indirapuram and Sahibabad police stations.
He had managed to give the slip to the police a number of times following which the Uttar Pradesh police increased the reward on his head from Rs 15,000 to Rs 50,000. The police said Kale had run out of hideouts and resources after his accomplices were arrested one by one. Those arrested include Sabir Chaudhary — a man who provided shelter and shooters to Kale and is said to be a drug supplier, Asma – Kale’s girlfriend, and brother Tahsin.
After the murder of Arshi Malik in a Ghaziabad highrise, the police had piled the pressure on Kale and his gang, forcing him to seek refuge outside the state. Kale, in his attempt to seek a hideout in Uttarakhand, used the clout of an Uttrakhand police inspector, Anil Joshi, who was an old acquaintance.
Joshi has since been suspended following a complaint from the Ghaziabad police and a departmental inquiry.
