NDMC pays its staff in Rs 50 and Rs 100 notes
NEW DELHI: In a move that is set to ease the pressure on its employees as well as banks, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Thursday distributed a part of the salary to its employees in denominations of 50 and 100 currency notes.
The advance salary is being paid to around 18,000 non-gazetted employees in the municipal body. While non-gazetted officers have received Rs 10,000 each in lower denominations, the regular and temporary muster roll employees got a sum of Rs 4,000 each.

“We authorised the officers concerned to collect the cash from the chief cashier and distribute it by organising a centralised camp at the NDMC convention centre,” a senior official said. The gigantic exercise makes the Council the first government agency to carry out such an exercise.
According to the civic body, it was able to pump in over Rs 12 crore worth of lower denomination notes in the system in a single day. “We are hoping it will have a cascading effect on the queues at ATMs and banks. We have also covered Group D staff like safai karamcharis, malis, beldars and chowkidars, who will now be relived from standing in queues,” NDMC chairman Naresh Kumar said.
