Panipat, November 24
After achieving open defecation free (ODF) status for Panipat Rural, the administration has fixed December 15 as the target to get ODF status for Panipat Urban.
Chander Shekhar Khare, Deputy Commissioner, said, “Four special teams comprising five members each were constituted on November 18 to make residents aware of the ill-effects of open defecation. Targets have been fixed and each team will have the responsibility of six wards each.”
The teams would visit their respective wards from 5:30 am to 7:30 am during working days to make residents aware of the drive.
The municipal corporation (MC) would work phase-wise to get ODF status under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
Eight of the 24 wards had been selected for the first phase, said Veena Hooda, MC Commissioner.
The MC had sought the support of councillors of wards concerned and held a meeting with them, she said.
A special cleanliness drive at night had been launched, she said. Some new employees were also engaged in the drive, she added.
The MC had allotted tenders for construction of around 30 public toilets in various localities and markets, she further said. Ten mobile toilets would be installed in slums, stated the MC Commissioner.
