LUCKNOW: Body of a newborn girl was found in a garbage dump in Tarauna Kheda in Malihabad on Thursday morning, sending shock waves in the locality. This was the fourth body of a newborn found in the city in the past one week.
Around 8am, Amit Yadav spotted eagles in the sky and stink rising from nearby and found a body in the garbage. He informed police on dial 100 but no help came for an hour. By that time a huge crowd gathered and it was only four hours after Amit went to the nearby police station to report the matter that they came and took the body for autopsy.

“The baby was apparently one or two days old and an unwanted child dumped after being killed,” Amit told reporters. People in the area demanded that police register a murder case. Police said that since nobody lodged a written complaint, they cannot initiate any action.
As many as 13 newlyborn babies, all girls, were recovered in 2015 and 14 so far in 2016 in the city, as per police records.
When asked about police inaction in such cases, SSP Lucknow Manzil Saini said, “Local intelligence unit has identified the family of the baby girl whose body was recovered from PGI on Friday. Investigation in other cases are underway."
Child right activist Dr Neelam Singh said preference of male child is responsible for such crimes and police should take such cases on priority basis.
