Quack held from Aluva

A 30-year-old quack who hails from West Bengal was arrested from Aluva. The accused used to treat for hemorrhoids without any medical qualification.

KOCHI: A 30-year-old quack who hails from West Bengal was arrested from Aluva. The accused used to treat for hemorrhoids without any medical qualification.
The accused, Deepankar Mondal, used to take Rs 4,000 to Rs10,000 for treating piles.
He had prepared a ‘special medicine’ by mixing lotions with coconut oil. “He used to take Rs 100 as consultation fee and later ask for more.
Most of his patients used to feel relief for a while. The piles later used to rupture and the accused used to dress up these wounds as well,” said a senior police officer.
Mondal was working from a rented room along the Aluva-Perumbavoor Road close to the town. He was presented before the court and sent to judicial custody.
One-year jail for former bank manager: A former senior manager of the Union Bank of India’s Cherup branch in Thrissur was sentenced to one-year imprisonment and Rs 50,000 fine for allegedly sanctioning a loan of Rs 10 lakh flouting norms.
In the judgment made in the CBI special court Ernakulam, the manager, K K Viswambaran, was found guilty under sections 420 of the IPC and under 13(2) r/w 13(1) (d) of the Prevention of corruption Act.
Viswambaran had allegedly entered into a conspiracy with two other accused in the case to grant a loan worth Rs10 lakh violating banking norms. The housing loan was granted to one Abdul Majeed and Aishabee.
The conspiracy was hatched in 2004-2005 and the case was filed in 2006.
