Atletico Madrid in trouble with Spanish Football Federation after abusive chants against Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo won’t mind this one bit

Atletico Madrid might be in big trouble after antics from their fans during the Madrid derby was reported to the Spanish Football Federation. The fans were heard chanting nasty slogans against Cristiano Ronaldo which has been taken note of by the La Liga association.

Offensive and rude behaviour during derbies especially heated ones such as the Madrid derby is not uncommon but sometimes fans do tend to take it a little too far. There is a lot of hate between both sets of supporters and that tension has intensified in recent seasons.

Under Simeone, the club have become more competitive and ruthless. Real Madrid had a poor record as well against Atletico having not won against them for several games but they finally ended their hoodoo as Ronaldo scored a hat-trick last weekend.

The fans very obviously upset with the result and the performance let their emotions get the better of them. But these chants can be deemed downright disgraceful. These are some of the slurs that were heard on Saturday:

“Madridistas, hijos de puta” which translates to: Madridistas, son of b*****es”

“Ese portugués, que hijo puta es" which translates to: “That Portuguese, what a son of a b***h he is””

The club might possibly face a fine or a stadium ban for the fans who were responsible for those slurs. The RFEF will be investigating the matter after taking a look at the report submitted by the La Liga officials.

Atletico are currently 9 points adrift of top spot and could already be out of the title race. Barcelona also dropped points last weekend but can cut that gap when they play Madrid in the El Clasico less than two weeks from now.

Atletico Madrid secure top spot in Champions League

Last night saw one of the biggest upsets in the UEFA Champions League as Bayern Munich were beaten 3-2 in Russia by FC Rostov. It was a result that meant Atletico could finish top of the group with a win.

They gladly obliged with a more than comfortable win over PSV Eindhoven at home. Carlo Ancelloti received a lot of stick from the German media after the game. Adding to the defeat at Borussia Dortmund last weekend this has been a difficult few days for the Italian.

Finishing second will mean they will have a higher probability of facing tougher opposition in the knockout stages. Ancelotti was brought in at Bayern to win the Champions League but after a disappointing start tot the season there will be questions asked of him by the board.
