November 24 is the last day to use the demonized Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes at public utilities. After banning the notes on November 8, the government extended the use of old notes at public utilities such as government hospitals, milk booths, power and water bills, LPG gas cylinders, booking airline tickets at the airport, petrol pumps, railway ticketing for the next few days.
There is no official announcement from the government yet about the extension of date for usage of old notes at public utilities. So today is the last chance to get the old Rs 1000 and Rs 500 rupee notes to be spent.
People can deposit the demonitized notes in Post Offices savings accounts, the Finance Ministry said on Wednesday.The demonitized notes can also get exchanged in banks. Due to the shortage of new notes, people can only exchange Rs 2000 per day.
People who are unable to exchange old currency notes within 30 December 2016, will be allowed to exchange it till 31st March 2017.
