Toyota Confirms New Prius India Launch In January 2017
Toyota has confirmed that the new Prius hybrid will be launched in India in January 2017.
Japanese car manufacturer Toyota Motor Corporation's Indian subsidiary Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has confirmed that it will launch the new Prius hybrid car in January 2017.
The new Prius made its official debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. Later in 2016 the new Prius was showcased at the Auto Expo in Delhi. The Prius is the maiden car to be produced worldwide based on the TNGA platform.
Toyota claims that the low centre of gravity of TNGA platform will result in better handling of the car. The TNGA chassis are also being used in Toyota's other global models as well.
The new Prius is powered by hybrid powertrain which includes a petrol engine and an electric motor. The 1.8-litre four cylinder engine with Eco and Power modes produces 97bhp and 142Nm of torque.
The electric motor develops 71bhp and 136Nm of torque which draws power from lithium-ion/nickel-metal hydride batteries.
Toyota claims that the new Prius will deliver ten percent more fuel economy and 40 percent increase in thermal efficiency. The new Prius is spacious compared to its older sibling and the boot space is also increased.
The interior of the new Prius features touchscreen infotainment system, 4.2-inch instrument cluster, automatic climate control and colour heads up display.
The new Prius is expected to be launched with a price tag of around Rs 30 to Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Prius was the first hybrid car to hit Indian market back in 2010. Later on, in 2012 the facelifted Prius was also launched.
