ISLAMABAD: The Additional Sessions Judge, Islamabad Raja Asif Mehmood, while accepting an appeal filed by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) against the decision of the lower court declared Khan Badshah as an Afghan National. Khan Badshah was originally an Afghan refugee, but he had successfully managed to obtain his Pakistani birth certificate, school leaving certificate, CNIC and passport. He also got a court degree in his favour by a civil court in April 2016, which declared him a Pakistani national. Meanwhile, hearing an appeal filed by the Director General of NADRA, through its prosecutor Sardar Amir Mumtaz Khan, the Sessions Court of Islamabad in its decision set aside a prior decree issued by the civil court in the Khan Badshah case. The court declared that the admission card of Khan Badshah into his school clearly indicated that he was admitted as an Afghan refugee at that time. Some other cases titled Damman Khan, Ghullab Khan and Shair Ali vs NADRA have already been decided by the efforts of Sardar Amir Mumtaz Khan. Since the government has decided to take strict action against Afghan refugees, the Afghan nationals who illegally changed their citizenship were trying to get relief through courts by filing cases. The NADRA has appointed Sardar Amir to deal with these cases, which are pending in the Islamabad District Courts. Mr. Amir has already appeared in many Afghan cases in various courts of Chowa Syedan Shah, Attock and Chakwal and successfully defended the government side.
