Irrfan now is all set to become the face of a unique theatre initiative in his homeland Tonk of Rajasthan. Jairangam aka the Jaipur Theater Festival initiated in 2012 and has over the last 4 years become one of the promising theatre festivals in India. This year Irrfan has been signed on to be the face of the festival. Jaipur as a city is still growing in the mainstream theatre scene and Irrfan believes that one needs to give more prominence to this art form in the state.

Says Irrfan, “When I was young and wanted to be part of theatre, there were hardly any plays happening around the city. Either they were very serious or extremely dramatic. If someone mentioned about theatre, people used to look down upon it.

I feel extremely glad to be part of this festival that we are able to share theatre with aam aadmi as it is not merely a source of entertainment but people also get to learn something or the other out of it. Though people were thinking and claiming theatre wouldn’t be here for long, I believe theatre will never fade away and nothing can replace it.”

Thus with his presence and support he hopes to do his bit for the theatre world, from where he began and learnt the very nuances of being an actor.
Irrfan attended a press conference before commencing the festival and inaugurated the festival on 21st November. The festival continues till 27th November and will have play productions by Manav Kaul, Paresh Rawal, Makrand Deshpande, Kumud Mishra and many more eminent theatre personalities.
