AHMEDABAD: While the nine accused in the international fraud call centre busted in Bodakdev were getting bail, the city police was busy forming a special committee of four IPS officers to probe such rackets. Ahmedabad police commissioner, A K Singh, will head the committee. The accused arrested from Lac Art El Infotech Pvt Ltd on Monday received bail on Wednesday.
Sources in city police said the other IPS officers in the committee are Piyush Patel, joint commissioner of police, Sector-I, J K Bhatt, joint commissioner of police, crime branch, and Deepan Bhadran, DCP, crime branch.
The four-member committee will also coordinate interstate links of the call centre scams and monitor and act on fraud call centres detected in the city.
Meanwhile, cyber cell sleuths have struck upon vital information regarding another fraud call centre which closed recently, and was located close to Lac Art El Infotech Pvt Ltd.
“We are in the process of conducting a Panchnama, and very soon will come out with details of the already shut call centre shortly,” said a senior crime branch official.
During the probe into the Bodakdev fraud call centre, it has come to light that youths who were rendered jobless after Thane crime branch raids on call centres in October 2016, were brought to the city by one of the accused, Dharmesh Modi.
The fraud call centre in Bodakdev, allegedly run by Hitendra Davda and Sandeep Rajavani was involved in duping US citizens. “The call centre had reportedly done illegal transactions of more than Rs 60 crore in the last few months,” said a crime branch official.
Earlier on November 19- Chandkheda police had raided a similar fraud call centre.
