Kaushik Gandhi's 164-run knock helped Tamil Nadu take the first-innings lead of 70 runs against Punjab in their Ranji Trophy match here today. Gandhi forged two crucial partnerships — an 85-run stand with Dinesh Karthik (54) for the fourth wicket, and a 79-run stand for the fifth wicket with Vijay Shankar (33) — to help his team go past Punjab's 284 and post 354 .
Gandhi, who was batting on 75 overnight, struck 21 boundaries. Manpreet Gony (4/81) and Siddarth Kaul (3/86) were the most successful bowlers for Punjab. In their second essay, Punjab were 121/2 when the stumps were drawn on the penultimate day of the contest. While Manan Vohra got out after scoring 41, Uday Kaul (43) and Mandeep Singh (35) were batting at the close of play.
Hyderabad opener hit
Valsad: Hyderabad opener Tanmay Agarwal was taken to hospital after being hit on the head while fielding in the match against Chhattisgarh. Agarwal was fielding at forward short-leg when Manoj Singh's pull off spinner Mehdi Hasan struck him plush on the helmet. He was stretchered off the field and taken to hospital for a preliminary check-up. — PTI
