Navi Mumbai: Women candidates have outnumbered men in the upcoming civic polls in Raigad district.
In nice municipal councils of Raigad, 23 women candidates are contesting against 17 male candidates for the post of president. And 267 female candidates are contesting for 170 councillors’ seats against 257 male contestants.
Over 1.87 lakh voters will exercise their franchise in the municipal councils in Raigad on November 27.
The Nine municipal councils going to the polls are Uran, Khopoli, Matheran, Pen, Alibaug, Murud-Janjira, Roha, Shrivardhan and Mahad.
While Matheran has lowest number of registered voters at 3,611, Khopoli boasts the highest number of voters at 52,471.
Revealing the data, Raigad district municipal administration department official Sanjay Gaonkar said, “Multi-cornered contest will be held in almost all the seats of the councils. Seven candidates are fighting for the president’s position in Khopoli and Roha municipal councils.”
