PANAJI: In an attempt to poke holes in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s assertion that
demonetization would help curb corruption,
black money and terrorism,
AICC general secretary Digvijaya Singh sought to know how a terrorist killed in an encounter in Jammu & Kashmir had gained possession of the new Rs 2000 note.
Subtly slamming the NDA government led by Modi for “lack of understanding” on the demonetization issue, Singh stated that the move to demonetize high denomination notes was a “blunder and a scam where some people had advance notice.”
New notes of Rs 2,000 were found on two terrorists killed in an encounter in Bandipora in Jammu & Kashmir on Tuesday.
“Where did the terrorists get the notes when even the local person does not have the note? I am surprised by the prime minister's statement that demonetization will control terrorism. Is Modi and the national security advisor so naïve?” Singh said, taking a
jibe at Modi.
“To change 86% of the currency without adequate currency in the government treasury to replace it was a blunder,” Singh said.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Luizinho Faleiro also slammed the demonetization move saying that the country was witnessing “disturbing times.”
