Why Should Hyundai Bring Back The Santro To India? Here Are The Reasons
Hyundai discontinued its most popular hatchback Santro last year. There are reports about the relaunch of Santro in India market.
Hyundai's success story in India started back in 1998 when the company launched its tallboy Santro. The introduction of Santro shook the Indian automobile market which was dominated by Maruti Suzuki.
After 16 years of journey and selling over 1.9 million units, the tallboy hatchback was pulled out of the market in November 2015. Hyundai introduced the Santro in a time when Ford, General Motors and other sedans were popular in the market.
Many automotive experts thought that Santro will not make an impact in the Indian market. But with the price range of around Rs 3 lakh the car was a big hit among Indian customers.
Even when Hyundai announced the pull out of Santro last year it was clocking an average 2000 units per month. Now reports have emerged stating that the Santro will make its re-entry to India in 2018.
So, why should Hyundai bring back the Santro to India? Read on to know more.
Back in 1998, Hyundai Santro was one of the best cars in terms of value for money. It had features that none of the cars offered at that price range. So impressing the Indian customers will not be a tough task.
Hyundai's Eon which is the closest model to Santro is not generating the desired sales volume for the Korean car maker. Although Grand i10 is popular in India, Hyundai needs to fill up the space where Santro operated.
Hyundai is popular for launching feature rich cars. By re-launching the Santro, the manufacturer can attract young first-time car buyers in the country with new design and features.
Hyundai Santro has a tallboy design so implementing the SUV style design language will not take much effort. SUV styled cars and SUV's are already popular in India.
If the new Santro is launched with a crossover outlook then Hyundai can much into the market share of popular Renault Kwid.
