The doyen of Carnatic music Padmavibhushan
Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna is no more. The legendary musician passed away at his home in Chennai today. He was 86.
Balamuralikrishna started his career at the age of six and has to his credit over 25,000 concerts across the world. He had mastered all the 72 melakartha ragas by the age of 15 and had composed krithis in the same. He has performed along with other legendary musicians like Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Hariprasad Chaursia and Kishore Amonkar to name a few.
The credit for making compositions on Sri Annamacharya and Sri Bhadrachala Ramadasu goes to the musician. He was made Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Government in 2005.
On the film front, Balamuralikrishna has composed over 400 compositions in languages like Telugu, Sanskrit, Kannada and Tamil. He made his acting debut in films with Bhakta Prahlad
a (1967) under AVM Productions. He portrayed Narada in the film. His other works in films include the song Oru Naal Pothum ( Thiruvilayadal), Chinna Kannan Azhaikkiraan (Kavikkuyil), Anbaley Azhgagum Veedu (Pasanga). He has composed music for films like Adi Shankaracharya,Swathi Thirunaal, Bhagvadgita and Hamsageethe. His death is considered a huge loss to the music industry.
