Karuna Pandey is winning hearts as the vivacious Kusum Sundari in Colors’ Devanshi. She delivers a power packed performance as the wicked God woman, who is fooling people in her village under the impression of having vision of the Goddess herself. She pretends to be a saint and well-wisher of the village only to be exposed by a little girl Devanshi. The 9-year old innocent girl, accidentally exposes, Kusum Sundari’s fraud practises and the villagers begin to adore Devanshi as the God woman instead. Devanshi’s mother always wanted to revenge Kusum Sundari and uses her naive daughter for this purpose.

Having noticed that Devanshi is winning hearts, Kusum Sundari fears losing the control over her devotees and decides to bring a twist to the whole story. She makes a shocking transformation to win back her followers. Yes, Kusum Sundari, who is usually seen dressed in red, will now be taking the avatar of Kaali Maata. She will try to gain attention of her followers saying that the goddess wants to direct a message to everyone through her. This important sequence will also bring a new twist in the show’s plot.

But dressing up for the sequence was not less than a task for Karuna Pandey aka Kusum Sundari. The actress had to endure and sit through a long make-up session to get her look right. She patiently waited as she was painted in black from head-to-toe. Additionally, she will don a huge red bindi and bright red lips to look perfectly like Kaali Maata. Kusum Sundari cannot come on terms with the fact that a 9-year-old girl has shaken her whole empire in a few days. People who used to blindly believe in all her powers are now praising Devanshi for her magical presence. With this sequence, Kusum Sundari will put forward an important challenge in front of Devanshi and her mother. As Kaali Maata, she will announce that Kusum will dethrone herself and ask Devanshi to take her place. She would crown a young girl as maata and expect her to take care of all the responsibilities she handed so far.

Telly Chakkar also quoted Karuna saying, “Yes, this sequence required me to get into the Kaali Mata getup. And it was a nice feeling. Though the make-up was time consuming, I enjoyed performing the scene. Washing away the black make-up and getting ready for my other normal sequences was indeed tough, but I managed to do it.
