Independent Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar, who had introduced a private member’s bill to declare Pakistan a terrorist state said that declaring the hostile neighbour a terrorist state would put pressure on them to mend their ways. Speaking of cross-border terrorism, Chandrasekhar said that India had been facing Pakistan sponsored terrorism for a long time and it was high time that actions were taken.

The Independent MP had earlier on Friday introduced a private bill seeking the declaration of Pakistan as a terrorist state. Speaking to IANS, he had said that he had promised to take the step after the Uri attack on September 18. He had said that the reason behind the introduction of such a bill was to highlight the need for the Indian government to take a stronger view of Pakistan as a state that sponsors terror. The main objective of the bill was to urge the government to take appropriate action to brand Pakistan as a terrorist nation, he had added.

According to IE, the bill titled, “The Declaration Of Countries as Sponsor of Terrorism Bill” states that “Pakistan propagates and harbours agents of international terror who have repeatedly attacked the territory and people of our country… (It) poses a continual risk to the peace and security of the region”. The bill also asks to impose legal, economic and travel sanctions on the citizens of Pakistan. The bill provides for the prohibition of citizens of a terrorist state, including its Head of State from travelling to India. The bill further states that the immunity if officials of such terrorist nations would be revoked and they would not be offered asylum from any legal case in India.
