COIMBATORE: The naxalite special division (NSD) teams from Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tirupur, Erode, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts have been asked to stop Maoist infiltration in Western Tamil Nadu.
The state internal security officials told the team leaders that Andhra Pradesh and Odisha police encountered 30 Maoists last month. It is very likely that these Maoists may try to establish camps along the Kerala-Tamil Nadu-Karnataka borders, they said.
"Maoists should not enter Tamil Nadu forest areas.
We should not allow them to create their base in the state," DIG (internal security) C Eswaramoorthy told the NSD teams.
NSD additional superintendent of police A Mohan Nawas will meet with the commissioner of police in Coimbatore city on Tuesday. DIG Eswaramoorthy addressed the NSD team inspectors and personnel.
Due to the difficulty in setting up camp in Andhra Pradesh, Maoists may seek to set up camp in Tamil Nadu, he said, adding that the NSD team should be ready to fight such infiltration.
He also advised the NSD teams to create good rapport with the tribals in Western Tamil Nadu so that they could pass on information about suspicious movements in forest areas.
