THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: "While skimming through my collection of books on Mexican art, I tried to explain to him everything I know about the genre. Yet, he stayed back at my house for two days and read all the books," planning board vice-chairman V K Ramachandran recalled the incident while speaking at length about his long-time friend P Govinda Pillai, veteran Marxist litterateur and orator.

Ramachandran was speaking at a function organized by the Centre for Development of Imaging Technology (C-DIT) to commemorate the fourth death anniversary of the communist leader, fondly known as PG.
For chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who inaugurated the event, the Leftist ideologue was 'the professor of professors'. "He had comprehensive knowledge in all fields. He had envisioned the role technology would play in the future and founded the C-DIT," he said.
Finance minister Thomas Isaac, PG's wife Rajamma, daughter and PSC member R Parvathi Devi were present at the function, which was presided over by IT secretary M Sivasankar. Malayalam Unicode font Nila, developed by C-DIT, was officially launched by chief minister by handing it over to Parvathi Devi at the event.
