KANPUR: A pall of gloom descended on the family of Monu Vishkarma (24), a native of
Ambedkar Nagar, who has lost three members of his family, including his brother
Sonu Vishkarma, sister-in-law Malti and uncle
Fateh Bahadur in the terrible
Indore-Patna Express train accident on Sunday.
Monu, suffering fracture in his right hand and shoulder, has even refused to accept ex-gratia money, and was insisting to go back to his native place.
Though his cousin Dilip, who had come to take him to Ambedkar Nagar, tried to convince him to take the compensation money but the aggrieved Monu kept on insisting to go back.
While recalling the incident, Monu cried and informed that he his other family members were travelling in S-2 coach "We first heard some unusual sound after the train had crossed Jhansi station at around 11.30 pm on November 19, but loud jerks were heard near the Orai station. The mishap took place while we were sleeping". At a blink of an eye our coach was a mangled heap. The lights went out and there was complete darkness with thick smoke and dust inside the coach, he added.
"We were going to attend a function in Akbarpur in Faizabad district but something else was written in our fate", he busted out with tears and added, "He will never travel by train in his life".
Monu is the only patient left in the Akbarpur district hospital along with his niece (daughter of Sonu and Malti). The 7-year-old girl, who is also badly injured, is being treated in the district hospital.
Talking to TOI, Dr
Pankaj Srivastava, chief medical superintendent of Akbarpur district hospital, said that out of 84 patients brought to the hospital, just two were left, who were being treated. The other patients have either been taken away by their relatives or have left the hospital voluntarily, he added.
