UDUPI: Two short movies based on problems faced by children of alcoholics were uploaded online here on Monday.
While 'Sidda - son of sot’ depicts problems and dreams of children of alcoholic parents, 'Makkallahatra Mathadi Please' highlights good and bad parenting. The 11-minute movies are directed by Santhosh Acharya, a freelancer 3D animation designer, and produced by Dr Virupaksha Devaramane.
They were released by Dr P V Bhandary, psychiatrist at the Dr A V Baliga Hospital on November 13.
Dr Devaramane said, “Since April 2016, we at Dr A V Baliga Hospital have been conducting sessions for children whose parents are alcoholics. They were given special classes on how to face life and also conducted classes regarding the effects of alcohol. When a person is addicted, his entire family and environment will be upset with this, in normal cases, after de addiction things turn into normal. His family will be happy and his environment will accept him but one thing he cannot get back is the childhood of his own children."
The movie not only shows a child with poor, alcoholic parents but also highlights the emotions of a child from a middle and upper class family who have enough money to drink and have fun but have no time for kids. “When a child is naughty and mischievous, it’s a common assumption that the children of alcoholic parents are bad and they have to face embarrassment in life. People don’t understand the child’s problems and this film highlights them," he said.
Acharya said “The movie focuses on how a boy goes through mental and physical torture. It explains the condition of a deprived child, who does not get good nutrition, moral education from parents, schooling, good clothing and nurturing of talent at a tender age. He dreams of enjoying his childhood. We got a good response from experts. We plan to do a second part based on the rehabilitation and solution.”
Anish Prasada Pandalu plays the lead role and the movie includes six supporting actors. While Ajit Karkera is the associate director, the cinematography is by Sujeeth Kotian.
