KARACHI: Two Lyari gang war suspects were killed while five, including political workers were arrested in separate raids and encounters on Sunday. Yousuf, allegedly involved in Lyari gang war was killed in what officials term it as an encounter with police in PIB Colony. Police officials said that the accused was arrested in injured condition as he exchanged fire with the police during a raid at the criminal’s hideout in Old Sabzi Mandi area. SHO, Safdar Mashwani, said that ASI, Tariq of the PIB Colony police station was also wounded during the encounter. Similarly, police claimed to have killed another suspected member of the Lyari gang during an exchange of fire, in area of Mauripur. Police officials said that the encounter took place when the police raided the gangsters’ hideout near Hawks bay and the gangster opened fire at the police and tried to escape. Both, the suspects and the police officer, were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where the injured suspect succumbed to his injuries during the treatment. The police also claimed to have recovered weapons from his possession. Further, the police also retaliated and killed one of the gangsters while his companion managed to escape. His body was shifted to Edhi morgue in Sohrab Goth for identification. In another incident, two workers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement were apprehended during an overnight targeted operation conducted by paramilitary forces in Shah Faisal Colony. The workers were later shifted to undisclosed location for questioning. Similarly, another worker of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement, Nadeem alias Lalu was taken into custody during a raid conducted near Jinnah Square in Malir. The suspect was later shifted to an undisclosed location for further questioning. Meanwhile, in an encounter with robbers, Defence police in Phase 1 have arrested two dacoits, Sultan and Sohaib in injured condition and also recovered pistols from their possession. SSP Saqib Ismail Memon said that the police have also recovered snatched mobile phones from their possession.
