Symbiosis Law School wins counselling contest

Symbiosis Law School, Pune, won the 5th National Client Counselling Competition organised by the College of Legal Studies of the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) here on Monday.

Twenty two teams from top law universities and colleges participated in the two-day competition, including NLSIU-Bangalore; NLU-Delhi; NLIU-Bhopal; O P Jindal Global Law School-Noida; Symbiosis Law School-Pune; Classic Law College; Lloyd Law College; and Symbiosis Law School-Noida.

The theme of this year’s competition was ‘Electronic Disputes’ whereas the previous four seasons of the competition were based on a wide range of Indian laws and statutes, such as constitutional law, contract law, law of torts, consumer laws, criminal laws and family laws.

Vivek Bharti Sharma, legal adviser to the Governor , along with Dr SJ Chorpra, Chancellor, and Dr Tabrez Ahamd, Director of College of Legal Studies, inaugurated the competition.

Sharma stressed the importance of learning all nuances of electronic disputes in the contemporary day and age and appreciated the UPES management for having chosen the said theme.

Earlier, welcoming the gathering, Dr Chopra appreciated the participants who had travelled from far off places, such as Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu, Odisha and Maharashtra, to be a part of the competition. Dr Tabrez explained the format of the competition and shared his thoughts on how it would assist budding law graduates in polishing their skills on advising and counseling their future clients.

The intensely-fought final was ultimately won by Symbiosis Law School, Pune, while NLU, Delhi, bagged the 1st runners-up place, followed by OP Jindal Law School in the 2nd runners-up slot and Lloyd Law College claiming the 3rd runners-up position.

The chief guest for the valedictory session was Rajesh Tandon, a former member of the Uttarakhand Human Rights Commission, gave away the prizes to the winning teams.

The winners were awarded the trophy along with a reward of Rs 25,000, online courses from sponsor IP leaders worth Rs 60,000 and books from knowledge partner Thomson Reuters worth Rs 15,000.

The1st runners-up were awarded with the runners-up trophy, along with a cash prize of Rs 15,000, online courses worth Rs 30,000 from IP Leaders and books worth Rs 10,000 from Thomson Reuters.

The 2nd runners-up were awarded a cash prize of Rs 10,000 along with online courses worth Rs 10,000 and books worth Rs 5,000.

The 3rd runners-up were given online courses worth Rs 10,000.
