UNLIKE THOUSANDS who aspire to start their career in the city of dreams, Varsha Bhargava (22) from Kolkata never saw herself in Mumbai. An offer letter from a top bank in the country brought Varsha to the city, just five months ago. Growing up, she says, she always wanted to live in a place with cooler temperature, and slower pace of life.

Watch what else is making news:

Calling life in Bombay “way too fast,” Varsha confesses to taking time to adjust to the city, but now that she has taken to the city’s pace and the sea, in particular, Varsha says she is not sure if she can adjust back home now.

What she likes:
Mumbai has given me the freedom, and the confidence to be truly alone. Today, I make my own decisions without hesitation because I know that there is no one to do it for me. But that said, I have also met some great people in the city,” said Varsha. A self-confessed foodie, she enjoys the vada pavs and sandwiches that are certified to be delicious, anywhere in the city. “I love the fact that I can sit by the sea, any time I want to and all by myself. It helps me relax in ways I have never experienced before and collect my thoughts. The sea, in its own way, makes me feel safe,” she elaborated.

What she dislikes:
While she has fallen in love with the city, she says that Mumbai can be nasty in its own way too. “If they sense that you are new and are struck, the people can take you for a ride. The city has thrown me in situations that I have never been in before,” says Varsha. She strongly feels that it is difficult to make a decent living in the city. “Not only is the rent high, it is also difficult to find a decent place. If you like the place, you just can’t afford it. If it is affordable, you don’t end up liking it,” rues Varsha.
