Jaipur: The arrest of 33-year-old Mohammed Sirajuddin, an alleged IS operative, led to the arrest of suspected IS operative Jameel Ahmed.
Post-December 2015 the state ATS and the intelligence units had zeroed in on some of the Facebook accounts and others active on various social networking sites who were seen sympathetic towards IS movements in Syria.
Since then, ATS was keeping an eye on these persons which actually made sleuths of ATS to be vigilant on the movements of Jameel.
Senior officers of ATS investigating Jameel’s case said that in coming days more arrests are likely and claimed that they have got incriminating evidences against Jameel.
“While we had seized many electronic gadgets and could find many chats and updates on social networking sites which established that Sirajuddin was an IS sympathiser, we came to know about other people and their inclination towards IS. At that time, Jameel was the one who used to celebrate any bomb blast that took place anywhere in India or abroad. Thus, he was on our radar,” said a senior officer of ATS on the condition of anonymity. Officers said that suddenly when sleuths of ATS came to know that Jameel flew to India and was active in Mumbai and Fatehpur, the vigil on him got intensified.
“Various things created doubts in our minds. Firstly, he had a salary of nearly Rs 3,30,000 per annum in Indian rupees. Still he had purchased bigger properties near the sub-urban areas of Mumbai. Secondly, when a person gets prosperity, he prefers to take family along but he sent them to Mumbai. And thirdly, he got active in Rajasthan and started operating from Fatehpur which is his native town,” the officer added.
Now, the ATS is eyeing the electronic evidences through two laptops, mobile phones, pen drive and camera which are under examination by CERTIN, Delhi. “Their analysis will fetch us more evidences in the case,” said Vikas Kumar, Superintendent of police, ATS.
It may be recalled that ATS on November 16 had arrested a suspected Islamic State operative Jameel from Sikar district. Jameel was head of finance of a firm in Dubai and he was allegedly transferring fund to those fighting in Iraq and Syria.
