Eight people have been arrested for connection with separate incidents of thefts reported at the ongoing India International Trade Fair (IITF) here, police said today.

Delhi: Eight arrested for theft at India International Trade Fair at Pragati Maidan

New Delhi Nov 22: Eight people have been arrested for connection with separate incidents of thefts reported at the ongoing India International Trade Fair (IITF) here, police said today. On Sunday, two women, Asha(40) and Sanjana(35), were arrested when they were allegedly trying to take out some items from the bag of the wife of Rear Admiral Kapil Tikku, a senior police officer said.

The accused were in possession of two tickets of Rs 500 which is meant for general public during business days. They have been booked under relevant section of IPC, the officer said. Meanwhile, three persons, who came from Punjab to rob people at the fair, have been arrested. During interrogation, Vishwanath (40), Kunal(20) and Kailash (45) said that they were involved in three more cases of robbery at the Trade Fair, police said.

Two bags, a ladies purse, Rs 14,260 in cash and other items were recovered from them, a police officer said. Special staff in civil dress have been deployed at various halls and pavilions of IITF to prevent theft and pick pocketing. Three women, identified as Amarjeet (50), Kamaljeet Kaur (53) and Harnam Kaur (65), have been arrested by the special staff and four packets of bangles, three purses, a silver purse and four new salwar-kameez sets have been recovered from them, the police officer said.
