AURANGABAD: A case has been registered against a former corporator and a female member of his family for making a futile attempt to get Transfer of Development Rights on a property for which they have already received compensation.
Considering the gravity of the case, the city police chief Amitesh Kumar has shifted the probe to the Economic Offences Wing.
EOW authorities said that a piece of 144 square metres of the accused’s property was acquired by the civic body for road widening in Manzoorpura area, a few years back.
The corporator’s family soon applied for compensation and received the amount sometime back.
In June this year, the accused with the help of his mother, prepared another proposal using the same land documents and submitted it requesting money under TDR as compensation for the acquired land.
EOW Police inspector Dnyaneshwar Sable said that the suspect allegedly forged documents and prepared a dummy proposal, which was accepted by the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation. The accused ran out of luck after a public notice was published in the local newspapers asking people to contact the civic body in case of any objection against the TDR within a stipulated period of time time.
Only after receiving a number of objections that the civic body learn about the man’s attempt to cheat and bag TDR a second time. They soon informed about this to the higher authorities.

Taking a serious cognizance, the civic body chief directed the town planning department to lodge a complaint against the duo. Town planning officer Prabhakar Pathak immediately lodged a complaint with the city chowk police station and accordingly a case of cheating, forgery and criminal conspiracy has been registered against the former corporator and his mother.
City Chowk police said that the accused are yet to be arrested in the case.
