Kuala Lumpur: A director of a government department in Labuan and two contractors have been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to assist with investigations of alleged abuse of power and corruption. The 59-year old director is currently being held at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.

He was arrested at 11.50am in Putrajaya. The two other male suspects, believed to be in their 40s, are contractors from the same company and are being detained at the MACC headquarters branch in Labuan.

They were arrested at about 6.30pm today. MACC, in a statement, said 12 bank accounts amounting to RM889,000 and belonging to the director and his family members, have been frozen.

The money is believed to be a part of millions obtained through the suspect's corrupt activities. MACC said they will continue tracking the money in other bank accounts belonging to the suspect as they believed it has been moved.

The Commission would apply to remand the three suspects at the Labuan Magistrate's Court tomorrow for further investigation.
