HC orders arrest of Jhenidah stalkers
The High Court today directed police to arrest in 72 hours the accused of the two cases filed for stalking two girls and grievously injuring their father in Kaliganj upazila of Jhenidah.
The court also directed the authorities concerned to submit a report by November 27 after complying with the arrest order.
The HC bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the order on a suo moto (of its own) move following a report published by Bangla daily Prothom Alo yesterday under the headline lost two legs, now in fear to lose land (Dui pa gechhe, ekhon bhitechhara howar bhoy).
On October 16, alleged stalkers beat up Shahnur, father of two girls, leaving him seriously wounded following his protest of stalking his daughters.
The miscreants thrashed him with sledge-hammer, chisel, and iron bar resulting profuse bleeding, according to the Prothom Alo report.
Shahnur’s brother Mahinur and relative Md Yakub Ali filed two cases with Senior Judicial Magistrate Court accusing 16 people and seven people respectively.
Police have so far arrested two persons in this connection while the rest are still absconding.
Kamal, the prime accused in the case is the general secretary of Kashtovanga union Jubo League, the youth front of ruling Awami League.
Shahnur’s elder daughter was forced to quit her studies following the ceaseless stalking by the alleged criminals, also said the report.
