Copenhagen's EMRI wins steering gear contract for Maersk's 19,000-TEUers
DANISH shipping giant Maersk Line has signed Copenhagen's EMRI steering control systems for its new 19,000-TEUers, reports London's Marine Electronics & Communications.
"This is a large order, but Maersk Line is getting a steering system that complies with their requirements for high quality and long service," said EMRI chief executive Claus Thomsen.
Mr Thomsen said his company was chosen because of the quality of its products and the long-term relationship with the shipping line.
EMRI has delivered multiple systems to Maersk with 20 systems delivered to the first Triple E series, EMRI has obtained a contract for another 11 for the second series.
These ships are being built at Daewoo shipyard in Korea. EMRI's solutions have also been chosen for Maersk Line's nine 14,000-TEU container ships that are being built at Hyundai Heavy Industries, Korea.
EMRI also supplied steering control systems to seven Maersk Line feeder vessels built at Cosco shipyard in China with a capacity of 3,600 TEU.
EMRI was founded in 1972. It has delivered autopilots, joystick/DP systems and complete steering control systems to all types of ships in the maritime industry.
