40 heritage pictures adorn 3-day photography exhibition

NAGPUR: Wanna see heritage pictures of Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Bhandara, Wardha and Nagpur at its best. Just visit Chitnavis Centre. As many as 6,000 photographs clicked by 22 amateur and seasoned photographers of 40 heritage structures in East Vidarbha are on display in the three-day East Vidarbha Photography Exhibition which kicked off at the centre in Civil Lines on Monday.
The exhibition was organized by the Fourth Dimension Photographers Club in association with Kalidas Samaroh Ayojan Samiti and Chitnavis Centre.
A total of 190 photographs depicting the historical and cultural relevance of the region were displayed. The motive of the exhibition was to recreate history and propagate the culture of East Vidarbha through photography. The photographers included Sangeeta Mahajan, Sampada Diwale, Bhairavi Damle, Vishal Gundare, Swapnil Motghare and many more.
Photographer Ashok Singh Thakur clicked a beautiful photograph of the Pandav Caves of Nagbhid, which were carved out of a single rock by Hinayana monks during the Satvahana period. Another spectacular photograph of the Kapur Baoli, Ramtek, clicked by Rajat Mourya too was on display. The photograph depicted a fallen temple along with a beautifully constructed water tank that lies at the foot of the Ramtek hill. A photograph by Murlidhar of Lake Mandir in Pardi constructed by the Bhonsales who established several army camps around Nagpur, was another astounding click.
A beautiful photograph of the Nrusimha in Bhatala belonging to the 7th century AD which is accessible from the Chandrapur district, was captured by Aditya Pande. Praveen Nikhare captured the Markanda Shiv Mandir which is also referred to as ‘Khajurao’ of Vidarbha and is famous for its intricate carvings. Sangeeta Mahajan photographed the Pauni Ghat and fortification of Bhandara. It was a natural boundary on the north of the ancient Pauni town, which was located on the trade route to the South.
At the inaugural ceremony divisional commissioner Anup Kumar, collector Sachin Karve, Pradyumna Sahasrabhanojee, president of Vidarbha Heritage Society and Raje Mudhoji Bhosale were present
Speaking to TOI Anup Kumar, said, “Heritage and tourism should be integrated to promote the culture of the region. This event makes sure of that and attempts to rewrite the history of the Vidarbha region.”
A visitor Swati Kale said, “This exhibition should be held in various places of Maharashtra. The heritage of Vidarbha should reach all the people of the state so that it is known for its uniqueness and culture.”
