PATNA: People in state have started losing patience due to non-availability of cash in banks and ATMs following the demonetisation of Rs1000 and Rs500 notes.
On Monday, customers tried to vandalize the State Bank of India branch at Auraiya in Muzaffarpur district after they did not get cash.
Muzaffarpur SSP Vivek Kumar said some customers were angry as the bank did not have cash for a short duration in the afternoon. They tried to vandalize the bank property.
"We immediately rushed additional policemen and the situation was brought under control," he said.
Chitranjan Jha, a customer of Central Bank branch at Araria, said people like him were losing patience.
"We support the Narendra Modi government decision as it will bring out black money, but it is more than 10 days and banks and ATMs are still not having sufficient money and forcing people to protest," said Jha who joined the protesters outside the bank on Monday afternoon and blocked the main road.
"It is high time the Centre should ask banks to streamline operations and ensure availability of sufficient cash in the ATMs," he added.
In Patna, too, people were unhappy with the non-availability of cash in a large number of ATMs even in the heart of the city.
"I checked at least 10 ATMs on Boring Road, Boring Canal Road and Pataliputra Colony, but there was no cash. One of the ATMs in Pataliputra Colony ran out of cash by the time my turn came. I don't know how long will this problem continue and we will have to manage with petty cash at home or borrowing money from friends in case of need," said Ajay Singh, a resident of Vivekanand Marg off Boring Road.
