50th Anniversary of Kwanzaa Caps Holiday Programs at Lewis Museum

11/21/16

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Kwanzaa, founded in 1966 by Dr. Maulana Karenga, of Parsonsburg, MD. The Reginald F. Lewis Museum holds a 50th Anniversary of Kwanzaa Celebration on Friday, December 30, 12pm-4pm to commemorate the occasion. It culminates the museum's holiday programs celebrating Nia.

"Kwanzaa was founded to reinforce African Americans' common bond to each other and to celebrate African heritage and culture. Fifty years later, the holiday still provides an important focal point for African Americans to celebrate family, community, culture, and traditional values," said Roni Jolley, Director of Education.
