NAGPUR: The forthcoming elections of Vidarbha Hockey Association (VHA) is generating lot of heat in the local hockey fraternity.
With less than a week to go for the polls, two major contesting panels-Hockey Lovers Panel headed by Radheshyam Sarda and Hockey Promoters Panel headed by another businessman BC Bhartia -are trying hard to woo the voters to emerge victorious on November 27.
The 63-year-old Sarda, who is contesting to retain his president's post, has vehemently refuted all the allegations levelled by treasurer Shyam Sharma.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Sarda said Sharma was not cooperating and that affected the working of VHA in the last couple of years.
"His conduct was not good. If he had any problem then he should have discussed it with us. On the contrary, he never used to come to VHA office. As a treasurer, he didn't function well. To top all this, he never kept any treasurer's documents like receipt and cheque books at the VHA office," said Sarda.
After the differences with present VHA executive committee members, Sharma, who had slammed Sarda and Company few months ago, is now fighting the elections for vice-president post from the rival Hockey Promoters Panel.

Sarda said during his president tenure he curbed unnecessary expenditures and that might be the reason why Sharma was not happy with him. "We are very confident of our victory. Voters will elect us with majority. We have no doubt in our mind that we will win all 12 posts," said Sarda.
VHA vice-president and veteran sports organizer Atal Bahadur Singh also backed Sarda and said, "As a president Sarda has not done anything wrong. In fact he has maintained the dignity of post. He is one of the best sports organizers I have come across in my life," said Singh.
Sarda said in the last two years VHA conducted various hockey tournaments including school division, college division, senior division, U-16 Inter-School, Sharad Pawar 'B' Division, Gafoor Bhai memorial tournament, Fatafat hockey for school boys and girls, coaching camps and umpires clinics.
About the long pending demand of astro turf, Sarda said, "We are thankful to state CM Devendra Fadnavis and Union minister Nitin Gadkari. The Maharashtra government has recommended astro turf for VHA ground and forwarded the proposal to the Central government. We are actively following up the matter and the sanction is likely to be received soon," he said.
